This week’s On the Radio segment covers the new Facebook data center that will be opening in Altoona, and their wind energy plan. Listen to the audio below, or continue reading for the transcript.

A new Facebook plant in Iowa will be powered by 100% wind energy.

This is the Iowa Environmental Focus.

The social media giant announced that their new data center, project to open in Altoona in 2015, will be completely powered by wind energy from a local plant.

MidAmerican Energy won the bid to own, build, and maintain the Wellsburg, Iowa wind plant, which will supply energy to Facebook next year.

This move is part of Facebook’s goal of operating on 25% clean energy.

The data center brings additional investment and jobs to the region, and it makes possible for 100% of its energy needs to be met entirely with one of Iowa’s most abundant renewable resources.
